CARE International worker killed in South Darfur

A Sudanese national working with a humanitarian organization was killed during an apparent robbery in South Darfur on Friday, the African Union/United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) confirmed on Sunday.

UNAMID said the Sudanese national, who was not immediately identified, was killed by unknown assailants in what appears to have been a robbery in Graida, a town located about 80 kilometers (49 miles) southeast of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state in western Sudan.

Few details about the incident were available, although UNAMID identified the victim as working for CARE International, an international development and humanitarian organization.

Government authorities are investigating the matter.
